Grain & Groove was never just about floors — it was always about people, purpose, and passion. The journey began in a very unexpected place: Belarus.
Fergal and Suzie first met while volunteering with Adi Roche’s Chernobyl Children’s Project, an experience that would shape not only their relationship but also their future business values. Fergal worked as a Building Project Manager with CCI’s Homes of Hope Programme, which focused on removing children from bleak, state-run orphanages and placing them in warm, loving homes. He later helped pioneer CCI’s Independent Living Programme, creating better futures through orphanage reform, adult care institutions, and day centres.
Suzie, equally hands-on, joined the projects in her own way — running makeshift kitchens, keeping the Irish builders fed, and pitching in wherever she could on site. It was gritty work, full of heart — and it set the tone for everything they’ve done since.
After moving from Cork to Meath, the couple opened Grain & Groove in 2015. Fergal, a qualified carpenter and seasoned Project Manager, brought years of timber knowledge to the table. Suzie, with a background in retail and a keen eye for interiors, brought the style, vision, and personal touch.
Together, they created a space that blends craftsmanship with creativity — offering timber floors, wall panelling, bespoke carpentry, tiles, and paint all under one roof.
Why Independent Matters
Being an independent business is at the very core of Grain & Groove’s identity. Fergal and Suzie believe that local stores are what make retail fun, personal, and meaningful. They’re the soul of a town, the opposite of soulless, cookie-cutter chains.
As Suzie puts it: “Life would be like The Truman Show without independents — polished on the surface but totally missing the magic.”
Leaders in Timber & More
Fergal is a true expert in timber flooring — from classic chevron and herringbone to solid and engineered floors. Grain & Groove was also one of the first in Ireland to supply and fit wall panelling, long before it became a trend. To this day, panelling and custom wall framing remain a huge part of their offering.
In 2020, the business outgrew its original space and moved to a much larger showroom, making room for their growing tile range — curated directly from Italy and Spain. In 2024, they welcomed The Paint Mill to the studio, turning Grain & Groove into a full one-stop interiors destination.
Customer-Centered, Always
Despite their growth, one thing hasn’t changed: their commitment to people.
Grain & Groove isn’t about quick transactions — it’s about taking each customer on a personal journey. Whether you’re restoring a period home or designing your dream new build, Fergal, Suzie, and their incredible team are there to guide you every step of the way.
From flooring and panelling to tiles, paint, and bespoke carpentry — the team at Grain & Groove are proud to help make homes feel like home.
